1)Who were the main contributors of the atom?
Democritus- He believed that atoms are the smallest particles that make up the world.
John Dalton- He came up with the atomin theory, which matter is composed of tiny particles that are called atoms. He stated that all atoms of the same element are alike in weight and in structure. Atoms that are differnent in weight they are not of the same element.
Chadwick: Chadwick discovered neutrons.
J.J. Thompson- He discovered the Plum pudiding model of the Atom. He discovered the electron. In his theory, the theory were known as the “plums”.
Ernest Rutheford- He stated that the majority of the atoms was located in the positively chaged center of the atom. He discovered this throught the gold-foil experiment. He discovered the nucleus.
Neils Bohr: He said that electrons move around the nucleus in large orbits like earth does around the sun.
2)Think about your lessons in history and discuss how the time period that they lived in determined the outcome of their discobery/ or how it influenced those individuals to be the names that we know today (aka did it matter where they grew up or if they had money?) The time period and where the scientist grew up diffenetly effected the scientist. At that time in history, people were just trying to live. People spent money on the nessesities. The people who had money could spend it on science labs.
3)Why do we consider the atomic theory still a theory? Part of the atomic theory has been proven, and some of it has yet to been proven.
4)Why does it matter that we understand the structure of the atom? We need to understand the makup of the atom, becuase they make up everything in the world today.
